The Lake County Forest Preserves run five off-leash dog areas in Lake County, Illinois: Duck Farm in Lake Villa, Independence Grove in Libertyville, Lakewood in Wauconda, Prairie Wolf in Lake Forest and Waukegan Savanna in Waukegan. Dogs can run, swim and play off-leash at each one. You need an annual or daily permit to enter, and one permit covers all five areas. To buy one you must show your dog's current rabies tag number and expiration date and register the license plate of each car you will use, up to three cars on an annual permit. The areas open daily at 6:30 am and close at 7 pm or sunset, whichever is later, with some morning maintenance closures April through October.
